Creating a Truss Position

Is there a way to draw a rectangle position to indicate a truss and have it number as a unit rather than as individual lines? I've tried grouping, but that removes the auto numbering feature.

Excellent! Thanks for the note about the "default mark". I'll give that a try.

Another LXBeam Success

I've just completed the second lighting plot I've created using LXBeams. This one went extremely well and I'm becoming more comfortable with the way the program works (and with my Mac). I'm still doing "workarounds" for issues which either don't have functions or I haven't discovered the f...

Terrific response thank you. When you explained "zoom affects size of PDF" it rang a bell as I'm sure I've read that on this forum before. However, it is still very strange to me that my zoom level would ever affect output. But I guess that is part of the learning curve in moving to Mac OS...

The latest builds of LXFree and LXBeams (6906) ignore a leading pound sign when interpreting unit numbers. These builds also add a format preference that automatically adds a pound sign to auto-number and auto-fill generated unit numbers. Woohoo! Wonderful! :D That worked like a charm! Thanks so mu...

PDF Export

I'm having some frustration in getting consistent size output to PDF from LXBeams. I understand that LXBeams creates symbols in 1/4" scale (or 1:50 metric). I have my drawing set to imperial measurements and an Arch C paper size to fit my theatre. When I export to PDF from either the Export men...

If you use a trackpad, you can use a pinch gesture for the zoom. Also, you can selectively enable zoom by combining a scroll with the option key. That way regular scroll can operate the scroll bars and option + scroll can zoom. Perhaps some day the magic mouse will support pinch and other iOS-like ...

I started putting fixtures on my positions before turning of the auto numbering feature. I then went through and numbered my fixtures manually (it is a grid and each bar in the grid wants to have a number 1 when auto numbered). The plot looks great and is numbered the way I want it. However, the Ins...

OK I've just discovered that LXBeams will do the zoom feature with a mouse scroll by turning it on in preferences. By default you can zoom in and out with the scroll wheel by using the option key.

I guess now I can reprogram my mouse for other commands instead.

I've programmed the MagicPrefs utility for the Macbook's Magic Trackpad to recognize the swipe gesture pinch in at CMD - and the pinch out as CMD + and now the trackpad will zoom in and out with ease.

Tip for Magic Mouse Users

I thought I'd share this tip for others using LXBeams. I'm new to the OS-X platform for lighting software having come from 10+ years of WYSIWG (don't get me started ranting on those b**tards). Being a PC user, and mostly designing scenery with Sketchup (I also teach it at university), I am so comfor...

That's wonderful! Thanks so much! I installed the plugin and exported my Sketchup model as DXF (polylines) having first put the model into Top View, Parallel Projection, and selected the portions to export. Worked like a charm. Now that I know I can get DXF files into LXBeams in this fashion, the pr...

Okay. I worked back and forth from Sketchup (version 8 Pro) to LXBeams all day and here is what I've discovered so far. When exporting DXF (any version), only circles will show up. I created a simple drawing with a rectangle, a single line and a circle. To export an accurate 2D top view from Sketchu...
