I uninstalled both lxfree and java.
I installed jave 7 and then I downloaded again lxfree.
I saved it to disk. I noticed it was a few bits larger that the previous one.
I installed it et voila, it works! No need to reset the toolbar at all.

as far as I can see the latest version available online is the one I had, v1.0.20 released 1-05-13
I am unable to locate the new version.
I will try to update my Jana in the meanwhile.
