Old files
Old files
Any tips on resurrecting old files? I have some plots for 2005 that I am trying to open with no success so far. I do have an old copy of MacLux on my old G4 gathering dust somewhere at home but I am 2000km away from that at the moment. Currently the files just appear as a document. Some older files that I re-saved using the old copy of MacLux appear as Unix executable files and I can open them in my latest release of LxPro.

MacLux Pro files are binary files that use the original Mac OS data/resource fork file structure. In order to open these files on OS X 10.6 or earlier, it may be necessary to add a .mLxf file extension. Especially if the file has been moved through a file system where the resource fork has been lost.
XML based LXSeries files can be exported from MacLux Pro. These files should have a .lxxplot extension. However, the shorter .lxx extension will still work if files are opened from within LXFree or LXBeams.
After LXSeries started using a .lxx file extension, Apple decided to reserve it for something else. So, double-clicking a file with an .lxx extension may not open the file in LXFree or LXBeams. But, it is still recognized as being able to be opened.
If you need to have a binary MacLux Pro file exported to .lxxplot format for use by LXSeries, you can e-mail it and I will run MacLux Pro on an old computer and export it for you.

Unable to Export from MuxLux 2.2
Hi,
I have been trying to resurrect some old MacLux Pro 2.2 files by using my old Mac running MacLux Pro 2.2 on Mac OSX 10.6.8 and when I try to export the plot files I get a system error. It reports that "results" as =5000.
Is there a way for me to open my old plot files in MacLux 2.2 and then save them so I can open them LXfree?
Thanks,
Jeff

Is the error 5000 or -5000?
This is probably a permissions error. Try exporting to a folder that you know you have permission to access. (Unless your permissions have been messed up, you should always be able to write to the account's home folder.)
If that doesn't work, you can always use Disk Utility to repair permissions and see if that helps.
