Enttec MK2 DMX in over Art-Net

Post by apg2222 »

Hello All,

here's my set-up :

Lx Console on my mac using a Enttec MK2 on OSX 10.10.1. Both universe send data without problems.

Now I'm trying to get some data from Ableton Live on an other computer.

Since dmx-out and in cannot run at the same time I tought using art-net could work. I'm new with the art-net protocole. Does it send over the typical XLR5 cable ? or it is only IP based. What are the settings I want to look for ?

Can Lx Console manage art-net without an external hardware ?

thx

Its not completely clear what the goal of your setup is. You may be better off with MIDI output via a network connection from Ableton to control LXConsole if you want to stick to the built-in hardware.

Art-Net is a UDP network protocol. You can receive Art-Net through the wired ethernet or wireless network connections on a Mac. (You need to properly setup the IP address and subnet mask on both computers for this to work.) What you will wind up with is essentially using LXConsole to convert incoming Art-Net for the Enttec MK2 to output as regular DMX. But, if that's all you want to do, then a dedicated Art-Net interface box is probably a better choice rather than using an entire computer for this task.

Art-Net is basically DMX over ethernet (wired or wireless does not matter). It is not a protocol you would use to control the higher functions of LXConsole such as setting the level of a submaster or running a cue. That type of control would be done using either MIDI or OSC.
