Effect window question and other suggestions

Post by Rosa »

Hi,

so far I´m loving lxconsole, I´m using it with the enttec dmx usb pro mk2. Though it was not made for it, I´m using it for live shows and I think it has great potential for it. So, my questions regard live use.

I have a question regarding the new effect window. It works well, except when I program a new effect, it wouldn´t start. I have to quit and restart the program to get the effect startet. Am I missing something?
And could it made possible to have more than one effect running at the same time?

Is there another way to get the cues running except for the "live controls"? I´m thinking of something that has all the buttons that live control has but shows more details of the cues in form of a list (with fade times etc.). Maybe I didn´t find the window yet, else I´d wish for something like that.

Also I was wondering, if it´s possible to integrate sub-control. In my imagination it would be a window of sub-faders where the subs can be controlled through. The wish goes on: it would react on somthing like the korg nanokontrol so you could hook it up to the computer and have a set of submaster faders.

Thanks so far!

It is possible that you had an effect already running when you experienced an effect not starting. There is a new build that disables the start button when an effect is running to make this more clear. Also, there's an indication of which effect is running in the effects table. Effects will stop running if they encounter a non-existing cue in their cue list. That probably would not explain why the effect did not appear to start if, after restarting, it did. However, this is something that may not be obvious. If you find a repeatable sequence where an effect does not start, please post it. Effects are very new and it is likely that there will be some unexpected problems that will be found.

The live window is the primary way of controlling the main cue playback. Cues can also be triggered by MIDI and OSC. There are two windows with lists of cues, the cue sheet and the cue list. Cues can be selected for execution by the live window by selecting them in either of these two windows. The cue sheet shows a summary of the what and when information associated with cues. The cue list shows a summary of the fade times and allows editing of them, spreadsheet style.

Subs can be controlled via MIDI. It is relatively easy to set up the Korg Nanokontrol to control them. In the setup window, you can detect control changes associated with the Nanokontrol's sliders and assign them to control submasters. The last detected control change number will be assigned when you add a MIDI action. Then, you can use the combo box to select possible actions. Direct control of a sub takes the form, "SUB-1" for sub number one. It is similarly easy to map the Nanokontrol's buttons to do things like initiate the go of the next cue or to start/stop an effect.
