Tutorial?

Post by lloydriford »

I could really use a brief tutorial on the best way to move LXConsole data back and forth to ETC Express/Expression boards. I accidentally cleared a patch the other day trying to merge a set of cues.

Thanks

LXConsole has patch addresses as part of the channel information which is the table in the bottom of the split screen of the main editing window. This patch information is used when exporting ASCII data and in the send/receive DMX functions.

The patch can be transferred to LXConsole from LXBeams/LXFree using the "send channels to LXConsole" script.

The patch is included in ASCII data if it is enabled in the Ascii tab of the preferences. When the patch is included, the number of dimmers is also set to the highest address.

Using Expression Offline to convert the Ascii data from LXConsole will alter the Express/Expression patch (if there is patch data included in the file). If you don't want to disturb the patch contained in the offline editor, turn off the Patch option in LXConsole's Preferences to only export other information in the Ascii stream.

The Ascii Patch preference also controls importing ascii data into LXConsole. If you are merging ascii files into LXConsole but do not want to change its patch, turn off the Patch option.

The Ascii Preference tab controls importing and exporting other parts of an ascii stream in a similar manner. For example, you could import only subs from an ascii file without changing the cues, groups or patch by checking only the "Subs" option.

That explains it perfectly, and opens up several more possibilities for merging cue lists and moving shows from one venue to another. Thanks!
