Mac OS 10.6.6 KILLS DMX USB PRO connection to LXConsole

I have been happily using DMX uSB PRO and LXConsole together. For some reason today they stopped working together. I heard now that it has to do with 10.6.6 OS. This is a deal killer for me. I ordered a Open DMX Ethernet today and hope that I can get that to work until there is a resolution for the USB issue. The strange this is I ran this for awhile no problem. They it suddenly stopped playing nice.

Any ideas????

A DMXUSBPro widget does work with 10.6.6 and LXConsole.

You may want to check a couple of things. First, you may need to install the FTDI drivers to have the widget work. The driver can be downloaded from www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm If you re-installed a system or have a new computer you may need to install the drivers again.

You can see if you can connect to the widget by looking in LXConsole's Preferences/DMX Info tab. The widget should be selected from the popup menu. It will have a name line cu.usbserial A800855n which will vary depending on your individual widget. If you don't see the widget, click the refresh button. If you still don't see the widget, try restarting the computer. If this still fails, there's either a problem with your widget or you need to install the drivers.

To test the connection, you can click the Widget Info button which should show you some information about the widget and its settings.

The widget must also be selected in the DMX Out tab of the preferences as the output interface.

If you unplug the widget while it is running, you may need to completely restart the computer to get it to connect to LXConsole again. Unplugging a running widget can also cause a crash.

I reinstalled the FTDI drivers as an UPGRADE. Do I need the D2XX Drivers too? They seem hard to install.

LXConsole see the widget and appears to connect OK.

Widget Serial Number: 02076772
Firmware version: 1.44
DMX break time: 96.030000 υs
DMX mark after break: 10.670000 υs
DMX packets/sec (0=max): 40
--See Console for user data, if any--

I even get a green flashing light, but NO DMX control. It seemed to work fine even after a system upgrade a week or so ago. It just stopped getting to the lights. I have checked all the wires etc. The ProUtility.APP from ENTTEC fails to find it. "Unable to Read from PRO" Unable to Open Device.

I am gonna try and install the D2XX as that version is 1.04

Reinstalled all DX22 drivers. Still nothing. I am out of ideas.

The PRO Utility still shows FAILED, yet it is visible in LX CONSOLE and the green light is flashing.

It sounds as though you may need to contact ENTTEC support to see what they recommend.

http://www.enttec.com/support-center/

There is an article about trouble shooting the USB-Pro using windows:

http://www.enttec.com/support-center/kb/article/000088

It sounds as though you've gone through most of the steps and need to contact ENTTEC's tech support with the serial number of your widget and the output from the pro utility.

Dead DMX USB PRO

They have told me that the fault is in the LX Console software. The strange thing is that all this stuff worked fine together then BAM it stopped. I had not just done a software update or changed anything. I was just working in Qlab, LXConsole and programming some cues. All was fine.

I think the USB PRO died but I don't know.

Out of interest I just tried my functional USBPro with ProUtility.APP. Strangely, it does not recognize the widget. However, the widget works with LXConsole just fine.

One thought you might want to check. There is an option in the DMX Out preferences called "Send Channels". If for some reason you changed that setting, your output might not be as expected. For instance if you normally used the "Send Channels" setting, you wouldn't need to patch channels to dimmers. However, without "Send Channels", the patch is used. In this case, a channel needs to be patched for it to cause any output.

"Send Channels" essentially has the same effect at using setup to patch channels 1 to 1 (channel 1 to dimmer 1, etc.) I mention this because it has tripped me up before. As has trying channels and not seeing an effect on stage because I'm not in live mode...

Yes, I know all that. Not sure what is going on there.

My real killer is getting the ODE to work. No luck yet.

The USB DMX PRO was BROKEN. I got another unit and it worked fine. The BROKEN unit died in mid use for no apparent reason. The PRO UTILITY does not seem to work with the DMX USB PRO using a Mac running OSX 10.6 or 10.5. I tested it on both. It opened in 10.5 for a second the crashed.

The DMX USB PRO works fine with OSX 10.6.6 despite what you may have heard.

I would recommend having either a second unit or better yet a ODE version to give you a second option if you have a unit failure like I did. This is a CRITICAL part of the complete LXConsole Mac lighting system. My show has become so dependent on it, I can't imagine performing without it.

Thanks to Claude for the support and help getting me back up.
