I bought a OPEN DMX Ethernet to try to get my DMX system back up. I don't know the settings to get it to out DMX from LX Console. Anyone know how to set it up. I am just controlling 6 LED lights on my own DMX chain.

To set up an Art-Net connection, you need to set a manual static IP address for your ethernet port. You need to know if the ODE is set to 10.n.n.n or 2.n.n.n. Then, you select the appropriate connection in LXConsole Preferences DMX Out tab. In the Preferences' DMX Info tab, there is a field that shows you the appropriate IP for the DMX Output setting. Copy this IP address and then quit LXConsole.

Go to the System Preferences and choose Network. Select the ethernet connection from the list on the left. Select "Manually" from the Configure IPV4 popup menu. Then, paste your 10.n.n.n or 2.n.n.n address that you copied from LXConsole into the IP Address field. Enter 255.255.0.0 in the subnet mask field. Click Apply. Close System Preferences.

Connect the ODE to the Mac with an ethernet cable and power it up. After a bit, its connection led should flash.

Open LXConsole. Look in the DMX Out tab of the preferences and be sure that the "IP interface for Art-Net" popup shows the static IP addres you just setup. If not, select it from the list. What this does is choose the port you want to use. 127.0.0.1 (Local) is probably also in the list as is your airport IP address. You want to be sure that LXConsole sends its output to the ethernet port.

Close the preferences and you should be set to use the output. Unlike the widget connection, you have to turn on the ethernet using either the toolbar button or File->External->Ethernet. Once you've done that, changes in live mode will be sent to the ethernet connection.

I am officially in HELL. I have the ODE. Show is in 24 hours and I can't seem to get it configured right. I show a IP of 169.254.170.231

the ethernet light is flashing constantly. Plugging it in to my DMX box shows dmx is there but nothing works.

You need to manually set an IP address for your ethernet connection that begins with either 10 or 2, not 169.

If you follow the steps, it should work. If you have trouble determining the IP address of your ODE, you can always try the 10 version first and the 2 version next.

There is one additional possible barrier and that is your firewall. If it is set to "Block All Incoming Connections" then it is stopping the ODE from making a connection. You can always turn the firewall completely off. (If you do this, you may want to also turn off the Airport for security reasons).

In earlier versions of LXConsole, there was no way to select the Art-Net interface. In those cases, it was necessary to turn the Airport off until a connection from LXConsole to the ODE was established.

I have now been on Skype with Austrailia for 3 hours. The only thing that is not right is that LXconsole is not hooking up to the ODE. The ODE works on it's own using the NMU utility and you can test the Artnet that way.

I am running out of time.

Are the universe and subnet both set to zero in the NMU's configuration of the ODE and in LXConsole's Preferences DMX Out settings?

Are the selected interfaces for DMX In and Out set to different connections? ie is the out set to Art-Net and the in set to USB PRO or E1.31?

Is the version of LXConsole you are using the latest build v2.0.21?

Using the NMU Art-Net test can you get output from dmx?

Can you e-mail or post screen shots of both the configuration screen from the NMU and from LXConsole's Preferences DMX Out tab?

Are you always using a specific file to test LXConsole or just a simple output to test if it works?

If you are using a specific file can you e-mail that to see if there's something specific in that file that is a problem?

I assume you fixed the Artnet select issue. How do I turn the firewall off?

My firewall is off.

Are we sure this is the correct Subnet Mask
255.255.0.0

What about all the other Ethernet settings?

It turns out that you need to actually select the preferred interface from the popup in the DMX Out preferences.

What happened was that because the ethernet interface was the first menu item, it appeared to be selected while it actually never had been set.

LXConsole v2.0.22 (latest build) addresses this issue.
