Do you need resistors or is there need to sodder in order to

i have LED bulbs but i don't want to sodder and i don't want to buy resistors. i don't know much about the lights all i know is that they're 5mm. i have about 400 of them that i want to hook up to one of those big lantern batteries. i was planning on just sticking them to wire then the battery but the red ones burn out. the blue and green ones work fine but they get really hot
