focus glitch?

Post by lanternz »

Sometime when changing an instrument from a fixed beam type to a zoom profile the beam fails to appear. I have noticed that this is because the spot/flood info returns a zero value when the instrument is changed. A click on the beam slider corrects the issue, but it is something that users may not be aware of. Is it possible to make the change set the zoom value to as close to the fixed value as possible?

You also need to watch out that the focus height is not set to some other value than 0 as an instrument shifted to a low boom position will not show it's beam if it does not strike the floor.

A request: is it possible to bring back the old MacLux click to focus as an option for focusing?

This is fixed in LXBeams latest build. The spot/flood setting is adjusted to fall within the instrument's range when a symbol is changed.

Beams that are horizontal (within 10 degrees) are now displayed in plan view even if they do not cross the beam plane. These beams are displayed as a cone rather than an oval (which hasn't changed).

Beams are displayed in section view even when they are not displayed in plan view (because they do not cross the beam plane).

Thanks, that one fixed.

Here is another - when an instrument is grouped with a gobo symbol it is not possible to copy it's focus info correctly to paste as a relative focus in another instrument. Easily fixed by un-grouping the instrument, but it would be good if we did not have to do this.

Also is it possible to make the grouped field smaller as it makes it difficult to select adjacent instruments.

Another one while I am here - is it possible to add a search function to the symbol library so that instead of scrolling through all the manufacturer's palettes we could just jump straight to the symbol we require.

Great app - looking forward to really getting the new 3D drawing tool working. Are you looking to make it possible to import 3D models (apart from the figures) from Sketchup?

You can select a single object within a group by holding down the option key and clicking on it. This allows operations such as copying the focus info or changing a property of that object without changing the property for the entire group. This has been the case for a long time. However, in the latest build the option-click toggles the direct selection.

In the latest build, in order to click to select a group, you have to click on one of the objects in the group, not just within the bounds of the group. This may make it easier to select nearby objects. When it is difficult to select close objects, you can use the Select->Next Object and "Select->Previous Object commands. This is more useful if you've used Auto-Arrange on the layer so that the drawing order matches the Instrument Schedule order. Otherwise, objects are selected by these commands in their current drawing order which might be somewhat random.

The latest build adds a search feature to the Inspector's Symbols tab. The search is simple case insensitive text based search that looks in the symbol's Type and Full Name to see if they contain the search term. You can search the current key for the next matching symbol. You can also get a list of all matching entries in the Key Library.

You can load a model from SketchUp by using the .faces export plugin that's included with LXSeries Pro. The model window also has some import capabilities for DXF 3D elements.

The 3D shapes in the latest version allow you to draw horizontal and vertical surfaces using the 3D version of a rectangle and 3D version of a line respectively. These 3D shapes are plotted in section views. 3D shapes also are shown in the model window when the "Document Objects" option is enabled in the "Stage" tab of the drawer. The main use of 3D shapes at present is to easily allow you to add legs, borders, walls and platforms and have them plot in section view.
